To complete Device Preconfiguration, you will need the following for each sensor in an order.
-
Network the sensor will connect to
Will the sensor connect to an existing Network in OneVue or will you need to create a new Network? If you will need to create a new network, you will need the settings for the network.
For a non-DHCP network, you will need to provide the static IPv4 address for the sensor.
Optionally, you can assign the sensor to an Alternate (backup) Network.
-
What the sensor is monitoring (OneVue Monitored Asset)
Will the sensor be monitoring a new Monitored Asset or be assigned to a Monitored Asset already in OneVue?
For a new Monitored Asset, you will need to provide its name.
If the sensor will be monitoring a Monitored Asset already in OneVue, be sure you know the exact name of the Monitored Asset.
-
Expected, normal operating range of the Monitored Asset the sensor will be monitoring
The Normal Condition is the expected operating range or the condition of the Monitored Asset assigned to the sensor. The settings vary based on the type of sensor and the condition being monitored.
-
When creating a new Monitored Asset only: what is the Business Unit the sensor and its Monitored Asset are to be assigned to
If your OneVue account has multiple Business Units, be sure to know the Business Unit the sensor will be assigned to.
When you have what's needed, complete the below steps.
From OneVue, go to the Dashboard. Your To Do list displays orders requiring Device Preconfiguration.
-
From the To Do list, select the order to be configured.
Note
If you should close your web browser or log out during this procedure, all information is saved and you can return to the procedure from your To Do list.
-
From Begin Device Preconfiguration, select if you want to complete the configuration on your own now or request assistance from Primex.
-
If you selected I'll try it on my own
You are guided through the configuration process for each sensor.
-
If you selected have a Primex Project Manager contact me
Schedule a Preconfiguration Consult with a Primex representative.
-
-
From the Network Profiles, review the available networks and select from one of the two options.
What option to select if...
-
Sensors will connect to a network listed
Select I'll use one of these.
-
Network information is NOT available and you cannot assign a network at this time
Select I'll use one of these and when assigning a network to each device select No Network.
-
Sensors will connect to a network that is not listed
Select I want to create a new network. You are required to provide the settings for the new network.
From the Create Network screen, enter the network settings. To view all settings, select Show Advanced Options.
Advanced Options include:
-
Authentication
The type of authentication protocol of the Wireless network. If None is selected, additional settings are not displayed.
-
TCP/IP
The type of network communication protocol of the network; either DHCP or a non-DHCP IPv4 protocol.
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol): select option if the network is DHCP; network allocates dynamic IP addresses to devices in the network.
IPv4 Address protocol: deselect Use DHCP option and enter the settings. Primex devices support Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4).

-
From the Configuring Devices screen, you will assign a Network and enter the settings for each sensor.
From the left section, the current sensor you are configuring is highlighted. If you have more than one sensor, preconfiguration guides you through configuring each sensor.
The below image is an example of the settings for a single probe temperature sensor monitoring a refrigerator (new Monitored Asset) in the Pharmacy Area (Business Unit).
Settings for each sensor include:
-
Network
Assigning a network allows the sensor to connect to your facility's network. If a network is not assigned, the sensor is required to be configured manually when it arrives at your facility.
Options: select an existing Network Profile, create a new Network Profile, or select No Network if a network cannot be assigned or created at this time.
For a Non-DHCP network: select Show Advanced Options to configure a sensor with a static IPv4 address.
To assign an Alternate Network: serves as a backup network when the sensor fails to connect to its primary network, select Show Advanced Options.
-
What will this Monitor? (Monitored Asset name)
The Monitored Asset is what the sensor is monitoring. A sensor is assigned to a Monitored Asset and its readings and operating conditions are linked to the Monitored Asset.
You can create a new Monitored Asset or assign the sensor to an existing Monitored Asset. Start typing into the field to either create a new asset or select an existing asset.
Monitored Asset Name and voice alerts: The pronunciation of abbreviations, acronyms, and numbers are read as a single word. Insert spaces or periods between each letter or number to ensure the Name is pronounced clearly. Example: Monitored Asset Name contains “MR ED” as the abbreviation for Magnetic Resonance Imaging - Emergency Department. Voice alert will state “Mister ED” and recommended to enter M.R.E.D. or M R E D. Voice alert with "Room 12345" in the Monitored Asset Name will be pronounced as "Room twelve thousand three hundred forty-five", be sure to include a space between numbers.
-
Label
Information printed on the label affixed to the sensor by Primex. Allows up to a maximum of 20 characters.
By default, set to the Monitored Asset name (What Will This Monitor). If an existing Monitored Asset is selected, the label value cannot be changed.
-
Normal Condition
The Normal Condition is the expected operating range or the condition of the Monitored Asset assigned to the sensor. The settings vary based on the type of sensor and the condition being monitored.
-
Business Unit
If you created a new Monitored Asset, assign the asset to a Business Unit. If a Business Unit is not assigned, it's automatically assigned to your Account Business Unit (parent to all Business Units).

-
After the sensor settings are provided, select Save and Continue.
Caution
Skip This Step: If selected when first configuring a device, the provided settings will be not be saved. This option is commonly used when you need to change a device's settings from the summary page, which allows you to skip devices until you reach the device that requires a setting change.
-
Once you have completed the steps for all sensors, a summary page of all sensor settings is displayed.
Verify the information is correct. If you need to change a setting for a sensor, from the list select Change.
-
Once you are ready to complete the configuration and process the order, select Confirm Shipment.
Each sensor is configured by Primex.
-
Sensors are added to your OneVue account and configured with the settings provided during preconfiguration.
Sensors are only listed in OneVue and are not active. A sensor does not become active until it establishes a connection to its assigned network at your facility and checks-in to OneVue.
Sensors and their packaging are labeled with the provided settings.
-
If a network was not assigned to a sensor or if the network settings were entered incorrectly, the network settings are required to be configured onsite when the sensor arrives at your facility.
You can use the OneVue Wired Device Configurator (OWDC) app or the Primex Device Configuration software to update a sensor's network settings.
