This section provides the procedures required to configure and install a Wireless Tone Generator (WTG).
Before installing a Wireless Tone Generator, be sure to review the prerequisites below.
It's not necessary to set up the Primex Event Scheduler Pro software at the time of installation of the Wireless Tone Generator. The Event Scheduler Pro can be added at a later time to complete the functionality of the system.
When programming multiple schedules, use a different ID number for each schedule. Set the corresponding Wireless Tone Generator to the matching ID number.
In areas that require multiple schedules and/or different schedules, the use of multiple Wireless Tone Generators may be required.
If your installation requires use of multiple Transmitters, make sure each Transmitter has the schedule downloaded into it. Contact Primex Technical Support for details on setting up a multiple Wireless Tone Generator installation.
Primex Transmitter with a GPS Receiver or NTP Server must be set up and operating to ensure proper installation.
PA system and or mechanical bell system installed.
The Wireless Tone Generator can be located anywhere within transmission range of the Transmitter and in a place that is convenient for connection to the PA and/or bell system.
The Wireless Tone Generator must be installed by a qualified electrician who is familiar with the paging or intercom system with which the Wireless Tone Generator is interfacing. Installation must adhere to local codes and regulations.
The Wireless Tone Generator is to be installed within 8 ft. from the PA system. For PA amplifiers that have a balanced input, the Wireless Tone Generator can be located at greater distances. a maximum of 50 ft. from the bell system. For amplifiers that do not have a balanced input increasing the distance beyond 8 ft. is not recommended.
For best reception the Wireless Tone Generator antenna should point vertically with respect to the ground.
Disconnect power from the Wireless Tone Generator before removing either of the unit's two access covers and do not reconnect power until both covers are secured. Do not make any adjustments or connections while power is supplied to the unit. Except during setup, the larger cover should remain closed and secure.
The Wireless Tone Generator has several adjustable settings. These settings are accessed from the unit's Menu function.
By pressing and holding the Menu button the unit will cycle through the menu options.
-
Set the menu settings.
While in the ID or Channel menu options, if there are no changes made in a minute of entering a menu section, it will time out and save the displayed value, exiting the menu mode.
If a value is changed while cycling through the menu, it will be saved and continue to cycle.
While in the menu option test or tone the menu will remain in the selected mode until the menu button is pressed again exiting the menu.
Verify all settings are correct to ensure the settings meet your system requirements.
The Wireless Tone Generator must be set to receive the same channel being broadcasted by the Transmitter. If you are using multiple Transmitters, additional steps are required, see following section.
The factory default setting is set to Channel 1. If the Transmitter is operating on Channel 1, you do not need to change the channel setting on the Wireless Tone Generator. The Transmitter Channel Number setting is located on the Transmitter front display in the lower right hand corner. If the Transmitter is not set to Channel 1, proceed to set the Wireless Tone Generator Channel Number to operate on the same channel as the Transmitter by using the unit's Menu function.
If your site is using multiple Transmitters operating on different channels, you may set your Wireless Tone Generators to receive transmissions from any Transmitter within range by selecting automatic channel scanning. The same schedule must still be downloaded into every Transmitter if you activate automatic channel scanning.
If you have different schedules, you will need to set the channel number on the Wireless Tone Generator to the specific Transmitter that you have downloaded that particular schedule into. To activate the automatic channel scanning set the dip switch #4 to the ON position.
To access the Dip Switch panel, remove the large cover of the Wireless Tone Generator. The dip switch panel is located on the top of the unit; identified by the red, (8) switch panel.

The switch ID corresponds to the zone to which the Wireless Tone Generator is assigned. Access the ID through the unit's Menu function and use the UP or DOWN buttons to change the setting of the ID.
Determine the correct ID: The ID must match the schedule ID specified in the Event Scheduler Pro software. There are twenty five allowable IDs from 00 to 24. Use 01 for the first Wireless Tone Generator. If your application needs only one Wireless Tone Generator then you need only one zone. If you require multiple wireless tone generators, each one must be assigned a different ID and different zones must be set up in the Event Scheduler Pro software.
The Wireless Tone Generator time/date is set in its dip switch panel.
Except when setting the Dip Switch options, the unit cover should remain closed and secure at all times.
To access the Dip Switch panel, remove the large cover of the Wireless Tone Generator. The dip switch panel is located on the top of the unit; identified by the red (8) switch panel.

You can adjust the volume of the Wireless Tone Generator tone using the volume dial located on the bottom of the unit's case. The Wireless Tone Generator volume control is factory preset at 25%.
Rotating the volume knob to the right (clockwise) increases the loudness of the tone.
Rotating the volume knob to the left (counter-clockwise) decreases the loudness of the tone.
The Wireless Tone Generator requires a signal from the Transmitter to give it time information as well as event information.
If the Wireless Tone Generator it is located in a marginal reception area, it will still function as long as it receives the information that it needs initially.
If it does not receive signal again, assuming that the power has not been interrupted, it will free run on its own clock and will continue to operate on its memory’s current event information.
Keep in mind that larger schedules may take 30 or more seconds to send from the Transmitter to the Wireless Tone Generator.
